My School without I.C.T

My Experience in Kufakwezwe  High School without the use of I.C.T

During my schooling years at Kufakwezwe High School, I never really imagine my life would be expose to other tools of learning such as a computer, I thought my life will end on using ink, paper and the chock-board when learning. Everything then seemed ordinary and plain normal, and i thought that's how it has to be because no one really new about Information Communication technology in our school. The only person who did use P.C was our administration clerk and I never really understood how essentially a computer was. I thought computers are for office use only.

As South Africa is one of the developing countries, there are many challenges when coming to technology and that thus affect our learning in the country most specially in poor rural areas. Many public schools don't have computers, some do have but they are not connected to internet. Barriers are defined as a set of conditions that make it  hard for a process to run smooth, and, considering the fact that there's a wide-range of them (barriers) in the South African educational set-up, they are bound to have a negative impact.

my former school, was affected by the above barriers and our learning was too limited compared to those who had I.C.T in their schools. and it had an negative impact in our lives because we then had to learn using a computer in a university level where we would be exploring more and enhancing our high school knowledge of technology.

My schooling at Kakwezwe high school, Mpumalanga-a journey conyinued

I miss every moment of my schooling at Kufakwezwe high school. I was a student of this school since 2010 when I was doing grade 11 until 2012 when I matriculated. I was doing the following subjects: History, Geography, tourism, maths lit, life orientation,Afrikaans,English and my home language which is Xitsonga. When I matriculated we were 52 matriculants in that school and we were all in a same class room though we were not doing same subjects, so others had to go out for other subjects while others remain in. this was crazy and disturbing to other students because they always had to move their chairs and desks out for another lesson.

My school was located in poor rural area and has poor infrastructure where in other class rooms the was no electricity. Other class room was liking on the roof, this was a barrier for use to concentrate when it rains. I wanted to do math’s and science but the was no educators for this subjects so I had to do history and geography which was not what I wanted.

There was no any type of technology used in our subject’s classes as other class rooms had no electricity. The only place you would find any technological instrument was in principal’s office, that’s you, would find a computer or other machines. But all of this never stopped me form getting what I wanted and that was to complete matric and further my studies in university. So being one of the University of Johannesburg students it’s a great achievement to me
